My current research explores the ways in which the concept of humanism (Humanismus) was deployed, circulated and defined in the early nineteenth-century German-language press. By investigating a digitized corpus of German-language newspapers and periodicals between 1808 and 1850, I investigate the ways in which the concept of humanism was deployed in various educational, philosophical and political debates before, during and after the German revolutions of 1848-49.
